    9 men, 9 kilometers

The road section from bend 11 was built in a construction period of three years and is considered the most technically difficult section.

Started in 1969 and completed in 1976, the Loser panorama road is a technical masterpiece of the time. Only 9 men with heavy equipment and tons of explosives were needed to build the 9-kilometre road.
Then as now, the population stood united behind the Loser Bergbahnen. The saltworks employees, for example, gave up ten times a hundred shillings (former Austrian currency) of their wages to finance this project. Countless locals and second homeowners donated thousands of shillings to give tourism in Altaussee a future.
Today, tourism on the Loser, alongside salt mining in Sandling, is an important part of Altaussee’s economy, as well as a popular local recreation area for the population with a wide range of mountain sports opportunities.
It is thanks to the pioneers around Josef Buttinger that the Loser mountain experience - in winter and summer - is easily accessible for guests from near and far.
